At Maui Insight we sometimes like to say, some stories write themselves.
Take for instance the No Dictators protests. It started as part of the very well-funded No Kings thing, except that in Hawaii many locals actually would prefer an old-fashioned monarchy. So here, the operation was against dictators.
Either way, they were successful! We still have neither a king, nor a dictator.
They didn't rest on their laurels. They gathered again, fresh new signs at the ready, to protest enforcement of Congress-approved national immigration laws.
Finally, just last week, they pivoted to supporting something: workers.
While most of Hawaii celebrated Lei Day, the No Kings club rallied around the socialism-hugging International Workers Day.
Whew, you need a scorecard to keep up!
It makes us wonder if they will ever protest for action that just might make Maui more healthy, prosperous, and happy as a whole island.
With that, Maui Insight offers the following ideas for the next No Kings/Dictators gathering, which we assume will arrive in June, main focus theme to be determined.
These are in random order. Please let us know in the comments which you would protest for.
Fewer Speed Humps on Maui
C'mon, man, enough is enough! (Though they sure give Maui Insight much to work with!)
Kihei Roundabout 'Improvements'
Raised crosswalks? Give the people the pedestrian bridge that was promised in the first place.
Bring Back Mega Golf Tournaments
Already we're short on events that bring prestige for Maui on a national scale. Maui losing the PGA sure smarts.
BUS BOATS: Real image from December 2021. Look familiar?Fix Kihei Flooding Problems
Other government agencies don't let neighborhoods flood repeatedly. Google catch basins, anyone?
No Geo-Engineered Mosquitoes on Maui!
Maybe team up with Hawaii Unites and help shoo away scientific experiments from Hawaiian islands. Can you say Wuhan?

Support Non-Corporate Jobs
Maui needs more jobs that are not corporate-controlled. Too bad Bill 9 does the opposite. Hotel jobs are nice and all, but ...
Glut of High-Rise Apartments
Yes, we need more housing affordable for Maui locals. But ... at what cost? Some of the new behemoths are not exactly pleasing to the eye. With hundreds and hundreds of new units coming, why do we even need Bill 9?
MONOLITHIC?: An affordable housing building, under construction, towers over the Kahului Post Office this week.Honorable Mentions: Maui water bill overcharges; the 15-Minute City malarkey; more safety cones.
To join the effort to oppose the state of Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources allowing billions of bio-engineered mosquitoes to be dumped all over East Maui, email comments to forestry@hawaii.gov. by Friday (May 8).
