A spot on the "back route" of Hana Highway is scheduled for full closure at Mahalawa Bridge from Dec. 3 to 6 as construction crews work around the clock to complete needed improvements.
The Maui County Department of Public Works reports that Hana Highway will be closed to traffic at Milepost 43, located near Pepeiaolepo Bay and north of Oheo Gulch. It is north of the turnoff to Pipiwai Trail, or south of Hana on the very southwest corner of the island.
The full closure at the project site is set to start at 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, until 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6.
No through traffic will be allowed during this period.
The contractor, HanaGoodfellow Brothers, LLC, will be completing work with installation of asphalt pavement, striping, relocation of signs, and other work. The project will feature installation of a temporary pre-engineered bridge over the existing Mahalawa Bridge.
The Department of Public Works apologizes for the inconvenience. For more information, call the Department of Public Works Engineering Office at (808) 270-7745.
