A Flash Flood Watch for Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Kahoolawe islands has been issued by the National Weather Service for tonight through late Friday night. According to the NWS-Honolulu:
"An upper-level low moving in from the west, combined with converging low-level flow and moisture moving in from the east, will bring the potential for thunderstorms and locally heavy rainfall statewide.
Flood-prone roads and other low-lying areas may be closed due to elevated runoff and overflowing streams. Urban areas may receive more significant flooding and property damage due to rapid runoff."
Precautions/Preparations
Residents and visitors should be prepared to take action if a Flash Flood Warning is issued. Those experiencing heavy rain, or rising waters in streams or creeks, are advised to immediately head to higher ground.
A Flash Flood Watch means conditions are favorable for flash flooding, which is life-threatening. Do not cross fast-flowing water in a vehicle or on foot. For more information visit the Maui County Emergency Alert page.
Patchy rain nearby, with a high of 76 and low of 66 degrees. Sunny in the morning, patchy rain nearby in the afternoon, clear overnight.
