The DOH has announced it will resume providing the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which was paused for days by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USFDA).
The federal agencies took 11 days to examine the risk of blood clots reported to be developing in people who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Hawaii state DOH officials stated, “The pause was lifted after determining the vaccine is safe and effective in preventing COVID-19, the risk of blood clots is very low, and the benefits of being vaccinated far outweigh any risk.”
Vaccinations with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines remain available by appointment. Those vaccine options engage different technologies and are available in all Hawaii counties.
Vaccine information specific to Maui County is available via Maui Nui Strong.
